Yes - all walkers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Children wishing to take part in the main walk must pay to register. Children taking part in Schools Walk the Wight can register for free. Can dogs take part? Yes! Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Dogs get a medal too, and dog bandanas (£5) are available on the day. Why is there an entry fee? Your fee helps cover essential event costs — fundraising is what truly supports Mountbatten’s services. Travel & Transport Are there travel discounts? Yes - 20% off Red Funnel and Wightlink (see your event pack).Hovertravel also runs an early sailing at 6:15am (pre‑booked). Is there parking at start points? No - please use our Park & Ride from Isle of Wight College. Is transport included? Yes - free buses all day for walkers with a walker number or medal.Full schedules are available on the Mountbatten website. What if I need to drop out on the route? For weary walkers who don't feel able to complete the walk. There will be a MB mini bus shuttle from: Mottistone, Brook or Freshwater Bay and will take walkers to the finish at Alum Bay where they can get on the Southern Vectis Shuttle back to Newport.
