'A Different Way of Life': Stories from the Island.

'A Different Way of Life' offers readers a glimpse into the unique charm and character of the Isle of Wight through a series of feel-good stories. From tales set during the bustle of Cowes Week and headiness of the Isle of Wight Festival, to narratives about “overners” finding a new home on its shores, the collection celebrates the Island's diverse landscapes and vibrant spirit.

"The stories are designed to be light and enjoyable," Jan says. "They reflect the unique character of the Isle of Wight and the people who live here."

While the stories are largely romantic, Jan notes that they appeal to a broad audience. "I've had men tell me they've really enjoyed the book, even those who don't typically read fiction," she adds.

From estate agent to author.

Jan's writing career began in the 1990s, alongside running the family-owned Wright Estate Agency with her husband, Phil. She crafted short stories for popular women's magazines like Woman’s Weekly, My Weekly, and Take a Break, captivating readers both locally and internationally with her blend of romance, humour, and relatable characters.

"I've always enjoyed writing short stories," Jan explains. "It's a way to create a complete world in a short space of time, and it's very satisfying to see a story come together."

Inspired by personal experience.

After witnessing the compassionate care Mountbatten Isle of Wight provided to a close friend in the 1990s, and again more recently with another friend's death, Jan felt compelled to give back to the charity that had provided so much support.

"Mountbatten made a difficult time a little easier," Jan says. "I wanted to do something meaningful to help them continue their important work."

Supporting vital hospice care across the Isle of Wight.

All profits from 'A Different Way of Life' directly support Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s work in the community and at the hospice itself in Newport. Priced at £6 in local shops, Jan encourages readers to donate what they can, with some individuals generously contributing upwards of £30 per copy.

"It's a charity book, so every donation makes a difference," Jan says. "I hope the book not only raises funds but also brings a little joy to those who read it."
