Carisbrooke CE Primary School has been revealed as the top fundraiser and trophy winner of the Schools Walk, following Mountbatten Isle of Wight's Walk the Wight 2025.

The children found out they had won in a special assembly and the news was met with a huge cheer.

The annual Schools Walk sees children cover the equivalent of 22 miles (by walking, scooting, skipping, swimming or something else — the choice is theirs), over the months leading up Walk the Wight. For every 30 minutes of activity, a child can tick off one mile. Then, together with their family and friends, they walk the final four miles on the big day in May, from Freshwater Bay to Alum Bay.

Around 80 children from Carisbrooke Primary took part, raising an amazing £3,435.90.

The money helps Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s expert staff provide 24/7 care across the Island, in people’s homes, as well as in its inpatient unit in Newport and through the John Cheverton Centre community space.

This year’s Walk the Wight is celebrating its 35th anniversary. Earlier this month, it was revealed the iconic fundraiser has already raised £515,000 in 2025, with funds still being paid in.

Carisbrooke CE Primary’s Head of School, Kirsty Wallace said: “We are incredibly proud of our children and families who care so deeply about others and are so willing to contribute to their community.

“Well done to all of our children who walked the Wight in 2025!”

Walk the Wight organiser, Ashleigh Gibbs, said: “What an incredible effort by Carisbrooke CE Primary.

“You should all be very proud of what you have achieved.

“By taking part, you have helped us look after people who are dying. The money you raised helps to pay for our expert nurses and doctors to visit people in their homes across the Isle of Wight and in our hospice in Newport.”

Schools Walk sponsor, independent financial planning firm, Rouse Financial Planning, said: “We are so proud to have been involved in Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s Schools Walk 2025.

“It’s a very worthy cause and one that touches almost everyone on the Island.

“Well done Carisbrooke CE Primary for your brilliant efforts!”
