Sir Cliff Richard's golden jacket raises funds for Mountbatten Isle of Wight A signed jacket, once worn by Sir Cliff Richard, has raised vital funds for Mountbatten Isle of Wight, at an auction at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes. The gold blazer went to former mental health nurse, Timothy Day, following his silent bid and an on-the-night sale, on 12 December. Designed by Thierry Mugler, the Congratulations, Summer Holiday and Living Doll singer's jacket was among auction lots which included wine, restaurant and travel vouchers, Isle of Wight Festival tickets and art. "It's a golden jacket! It belonged to Sir Cliff Richard," Timothy said, as he collected his prize. "Why did I bid? I was talking to a friend of his at dinner the other day and decided to. It benefits Mountbatten Isle of Wight and I totally respect the work that's done there. And it's an investment," he added. Timothy completed some of his nursing training at the hospice, which provides 24/7 care for people dealing with death and dying — to around 2,300 Islanders on any one day. December's event, organised by long-time Mountbatten supporter, Sara Causier, raised around £11,000, with funds still being collected. It was supported by Isle of Wight ferry firm, Red Funnel.
