Mountbatten trustee takes on Mount Toubkal in memory of his sister and to raise vital funds On 15 April, Charlie Panayi, one of our dedicated trustees, will begin an extraordinary journey to climb Mount Toubkal, the tallest mountain in North Africa, standing at an impressive 4,167m. But for Charlie, this climb is about so much more than reaching the summit. “This is a climb filled with purpose, heart, and love,” Charlie shared. He is undertaking this challenge in memory of his sister, Zoe, who died from melanoma at just 26 years old. In her final days, Zoe was cared for by Mountbatten, whose compassion and support left a lasting impact on Charlie and his family. “Mountbatten supported not just Zoe but our entire family and community. Their care made an unbearable time just a little more manageable. They continue to do the same for so many others, but like many charities, they’re under huge financial pressure,” he explained. Charlie’s climb is not only a tribute to Zoe but also a mission to raise vital funds for patients and families supported by Mountbatten. “Every donation goes directly to helping others receive the same care Zoe did,” he said. Mountbatten relies heavily on donations, with only a third of our funding coming from the NHS. The generosity of people like Charlie, who dedicate their efforts to fundraising, means we can continue providing expert, round-the-clock care and support—both in homes across the Island and in our inpatient unit—for those who need it most. Raising awareness for 'Zoe's Law'. In addition to fundraising, Charlie is using this climb to raise awareness for Zoe’s Law, a campaign calling for the mandatory testing of all removed moles and skin tags for melanoma. “We want to prevent other families from experiencing the same devastating loss,” Charlie said.
