Schools, businesses, staff, patients and the MP for Isle of Wight West marked Go Yellow 2024 in aid of Mountbatten Isle of Wight, on Friday, 11 October.

There was a lot of dressing up and much eating of yellow food. Meanwhile, across the week, a treadmill challenge saw us walk enough miles to cover the same distance as Walk the Wight, which turns 35 in 2025.

Thank you to you, if you joined in the fun. You helped raise cash and awareness for our 24/7 services, in Islanders' homes and in our 16-bed hospice in Newport.

At Lanesend Primary School in Cowes, children wore yellow and ran a cake sale, with some delicious looking things to buy.

At the John Cheverton Centre, in Newport, we set ourselves the challenge of walking the Wight as many times as we could, across the week leading up to the big day.

Among those who took part were patients, some of whom were attending rehab sessions and workshops at our community centre and cafe, staff, visitors and Isle of Wight West MP, Richard Quigley (above).

Between us, we walked the distance twice over!

In 2025, the iconic Isle of Wight fundraising walk, which covers just over 26 miles between Bembridge and Alum Bay, will celebrate its 35th birthday. (It's not too early to sign up to Walk the Wight 2025 - visit THIS LINK).

A daytime disco, called Sunday Skool, and lots of dressing up (including by solicitors, doctors and nurses and more) and a coffee morning were also among the fundraising events.

Across the Island, schools got in on the action too and we couldn't be more grateful!

Meanwhile, our John Cheverton Centre cafe served themed cakes and our staff embraced the yellow theme of the day. As well as characters from TV comedy, Hi-de-Hi, there were chickens and lots of sunflowers.

Our shop teams were also being celebrated as part of Hospice Care Week, which this year focussed on the importance of retail in helping fund charities like Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

Mountbatten has 11 shops on the Island, including a warehouse at Riverway, Newport and at the John Cheverton Centre and all play a vital role in supporting us to support our community.

The evening was rounded off with a Go Yellow themed quiz night (above).

A trophy was awarded to the winners, who spent the duration of the quiz dressed as chickens.

Mountbatten Isle of Wight is one-third funded by the NHS but this money has not changed in line with inflation, and even this is under threat.

Our charity increasingly relies on the two thirds of funding that comes from the community, including from events like Go Yellow, to support thousands of Islanders and to protect services for those who will need us in the future.
