The Isle of Wight Jazz Weekend kicks off on Wednesday (18 September), featuring Nate Najar and Daniela Soledade, Jim Mullen and Toni Kofi among a host of performances — as well as collecting vital donations for Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

The music event has been running since 2012 and Mountbatten Isle of Wight is hugely grateful to have been its charity partner since the outset.

On Thursday, at 7pm, our John Cheverton Centre in Newport will host a sold-out performance by the Cameron Rossi Quartet.

Organiser Jim Thorn said: "Mountbatten has played an integral part in the Isle of Wight Jazz Weekend.

"We have taken donations from audience members and invited the familiar yellow bucket collectors to gigs around Newport.

"The regular Thursday evening spot at the John Cheverton Centre has always been well supported and, in recent years, has featured young Island musicians who have made names for themselves nationally, such as Cameron Rossi and Sol Grimshaw.

"Last year, the sold-out gig with Sol's Blue Orchids quintet was exceptional and this year we have Cameron Rossi's quintet from London.

"We look forward to five days of great music and generous support for our partner charity."

Generous audience members contribute around £1,000 per year to Mountbatten, helping support our charity's vital and expert 24/7 care, in Islanders' homes and in our hospice.

This year, we would be hugely grateful if you would seek out our volunteer collectors and drop what you can into their buckets.

Your donations are crucial, because hospices are currently facing a funding crisis.

Two-thirds of the money we need to operate comes from our community while one third comes from the NHS — and even this is under threat.

In addition our costs are rising, which means your donations are more vital than ever.
