News & events News Carisbrooke High School Old Boys in charity cricket tournament THIS SUNDAY Carisbrooke High School Old Boys are holding a charity cricket tournament on Sunday, 25 May, to mark the first anniversary of the death of Isle of Wight cricketer, Ian Heal. In the last ten days of his life, Ian was cared for by Mountbatten Isle of Wight. He was aged 50 years old when he died, in 2024. Ian was captain of the Carisbrooke Old Boys team for over 30 years. So, from 9.30am on Sunday, the Old Boys and Ian’s family will play cricket at Porchfield Cricket Club. Ian was a solicitor, former president and committee member of Ryde and District Round Table, and a governor at Newchurch Primary School. He was also a keen Tottenham Hotspur fan. The testimonial tournament will take place with teams made up of former colleagues, family and friends. Alongside the cricket, there will be an all-day BBQ, bar and cake sale. A spokesperson for the club said: “We want to raise as much money as possible for Mountbatten Isle of Wight, to help others receive the same amazing care that Ian and his family did. “We have an array of amazing donations — from Island businesses and further afield. “Prizes and auction lots include handmade bespoke jewellery, original art work and merchandise, food and drink, pub and restaurant vouchers, ferry tickets, overnight stays, shopping vouchers, a spa pass, massages, family attraction passes, days out and much more. “Raffle tickets can be purchased on the day or, if you can’t make it and would like to buy some, please message any of Ian’s family or the Old Boys team." Some of those involved also took part in last weekend's Walk the Wight. Manage Cookie Preferences
