News & events News 24 hour indoor rowing challenge to raise funds for Mountbatten Isle of Wight Mountbatten Isle of Wight supporter, Max Fallone, will row for a whopping 24 hours straight, to raise money for end-of-life care. Hoping to beat the current British record, from Friday lunchtime Max will undertake his challenge at the Marine Fit gym, in Riverway, Newport. From midday on 22 August to midday on 23 August, he will attempt to cover more than 302 kilometres. This is no mean feat. He will row continuously, except for rest breaks lasting just five minutes. A recent training row saw him cover the distance of the English Channel in just two hours, during which he burned 16,000 calories. I've never really pushed myself to the limit before!" During the challenge, he plans to consume a high carb diet and he will need to consume the equivalent of up to six days' worth of food. Max is aiming to raise £1,500 for Mountbatten Isle of Wight and has already nearly reached his target. "Mountbatten Isle of Wight is the chosen charity of Marine Fit gym. Members of our gym community have family and friends here and that's why we have chose to support the delivery of its 24/7 end-of-life care," he said.
