In March 2026, in support of Mountbatten Isle of Wight, a group of fundraisers will take on an epic fundraising adventure: Sledding over 240km through untouched natural landscapes and tending to a pack of husky dogs, before finishing at Sweden's world-famous Ice Hotel.

Beccie, what made you take on the Lapland Husky Trail Challenge with Mountbatten Isle of Wight?

I am taking on the Lapland Husky Trail Challenge as I turn 50. I wanted to do something memorable and remarkable. I have always wanted to do some kind of expedition and this particular one felt like the perfect balance: Challenging myself, whilst hopefully raising a lot of money for an extremely worthy local charity.

How are you feeling about the challenge?

Being a woman `of a certain age' I am suffering with the menopause and the most extreme hot flushes. What better way to deal with them than wild camping in the Arctic? I will probably melt a hole through the ice where I sleep!

I also have osteoarthritis in my spine and want to prove to myself and other the importance of keeping fit and healthy, especially as we age.

I have been doing lots of yoga and Pilates over the past few years and am now so much stronger. I am also working hard on improving my stamina!

What are you most looking forward to?

I am excited, scared and apprehensive, in equal measure, about agreeing to undertake this challenge. I do not want to let anyone down. However, we only live once and I feel strongly that, to live a fulfilling life, we need to push and challenge ourselves to find our true strengths. Not everybody gets the opportunity!

What do you think will be the most challenging part?

I am not underestimating this challenge! My beloved Border Collie, Bella, died in early February. She had been ill with thyroid cancer for some time. She coped so well with chemotherapy and lived longer than expected. Our vets called her a 'miracle dog.' I know she will be with me, running alongside the huskies.

Beccie has already managed to win some high-profile support, from broadcaster and author, Simon Reeve, who presents a series of TV travel documentaries.

Simon shared a link to her fundraising page on Facebook, calling it an 'epic challenge'.

Why Mountbatten Isle of Wight?

Mountbatten Isle of Wight, is not a charity that either myself or my family have (as of yet) required the services of. However, I think we are aware the care and support they offer to local people, at the most distressing time, is invaluable. Any one of us could well need them at anytime. They whole-heartedly deserve everybody's support so they, in return, can continue to support us.
