What does being a Mountbatten Isle of Wight cafe volunteer involve?

Time commitment:

  • Flexible, depending on the needs of the cafe.
  • Shifts available Monday – Sunday, between 9am and 8pm.

We'll work with you to find a schedule that fits your availability and the cafe's requirements.

Where you’ll be based:

Mountbatten Isle of Wight's cafe is located in the John Cheverton Centre community space at Mountbatten Isle of Wight, in Halberry Lane, Newport. The centre is a bright, warm, welcoming, and friendly place, open to all.

What you’ll be doing:

This role offers a variety of tasks, ensuring each shift is engaging and rewarding. Typical activities include:

  • Preparing delicious food and drinks for our customers
  • Welcoming customers with a friendly smile and clearing tables
  • Restocking fresh products in our chilled cabinets
  • Talking to and engaging with our customers, offering a listening ear
  • Handling cash transactions accurately

You don't need prior cafe experience; we'll provide all the training you need.

What training and support will I receive from Mountbatten Isle of Wight in my cafe volunteer role?

As a Mountbatten Isle of Wight cafe volunteer, you will be welcomed into the team and given all the guidance you need, including:

  • Induction training
  • Health and safety briefings where needed
  • Full instruction on how to use any equipment, including tills
  • Ongoing support from the cafe team, including the cafe manager

You’ll never be left to manage on your own – there will always be someone you can ask for help.
